 Playing in the second octave on my flute so I can land on a lower C staccato.

(dreaming of) Summertime

Looking forward to when its Summertime and all this is over. It does feel like summer out there today, very sunny and warm, but you have to resist the urge to go out.

New Orleans style clarinet

A bit of New Orleans jazz, based on a song called Careless Love. I was watching a youtube video on the piece and I had to give it a go, including the technique of adding vibrato by moving the jaw up and down quickly. Took some getting used to but its fun!

Stranger on the Shore, Acker Bilk

Had a go at this classic, just the first part.

It goes into the clarion range after this and I'm not ready for that yet.

Need to tighten up my embouchure and control my fingers.

Fly me to the Moon

A little bit of smooth jazz on a Saturday. Still full of cold and I ran out of breath at the end.

A fun piece, on recorder.

I heard this jazzy piece played on ukulele and I set out to learn it myself. I played the basic melody, then I thought I'd give it a go on recorder, first on soprano, then on alto!
The piece is called Ja Da by Bob Carelton.

A Bit of Beiderbecke

Bix Beiderbecke was an early jazz player. His weapon of choice was the cornet and he paved his own way in the 1920s. Sadly he died in 1931 aged just 28, killed by drinking bad liquor.
I was practising clarinet today and one of his songs - used in an 80s TV show, popped into my head, and I went for it.
